What is a Maternity Leave in COL?

Maternity leave in Colombia (COL) is a legally mandated benefit that provides female employees with time off to recover from childbirth and bond with their newborn. It aims to support maternal health and child care during the initial stages after birth.


Duration

Female employees, both probationary and regular employees are entitled to 18 weeks (126 days) of paid maternity leave. The leave can begin one to two weeks before the expected due date, with the remaining time taken after childbirth.


What are the requirements for a Maternity Leave? 

These should be attached to the leave request.

  • Medical history.
  • Medical Certificate.
  • A copy of the baby's birth certificate.
  • Ultrasound of the first trimester.


IMPORTANT REMINDER!

  • Our recommendation is that you should file your leave no less than 15 days from the date of leave.
  • All leaves usage is subject for approval from the your direct manager.
